REVELATIONS BEFORE A COMMISSION. j Received JafiUary 8, 8.35 a.m. j NEW YORK, Jan. 7. | The Inter-siate Commerce Commission, in the course of an enquiry at, ; New York into railway matters, elicited the fact that the unlimited powers of Mr E. H. Harfiman, chairman "of the board of directors of the Northern Securities Company, enabled him to purchase twenty million Tpounds sterling worth of stock in other railways, and that he used enormous funds as he lifoiu. The sama commission in its enquiries at Washington as to railway' disasters, obtained evidence whidh showed inefficient management A'ftd recklessness on the part of Employees. One witness worked "aitxy hours with eight hours'" sleep. Those cases in which meft worked twenty-four hours contiftttbusly were not uncommon. Congress is likely to limit the hours of continuous labour to sixteen.
