SCARCITY OF LABOUR.
Received January 8, 10.57 p.m. BRISBANE, January 8. Owing to the scarcity of suitable labour the Chamber of Commerce will convene a meeting 1 of sugar-growers and other employers of labour, to decide the best means to obtain labour in the cane fields. With the exception of a few gangs the labour avail?ble is of a most inferior description. HARVEST RETURNS. Received January 8, 10.57 p.m. SYDNEY, January 8. The official harvest x'eturns give the estimate yield at 24,034,000 bushels, and the average 12.22. The quality is reported to be very good. The quantity available for export is estimated at 13,000,000.
