William J, Vernon pleaded guilty to a obarge of Billowing water to run from a hose on thu courts of the Victoria Tennis Club without hav ing the hose held by some person, contrary to the Borough by-laws. A flue of 5s with 7s costs was inflicted. George Ward, represented by Mr W. G. Behrc!, pleaded guilty to a similar offence in connection with the Masterton Tennis Club's Courts, and was fined 5s and 7s costs. Inspector Cairns slated that there was a shortage of water in the borough at the present time, and the charges had teen brought as a warning to tbe public. John JopeoD, for wprking at bis trade as a carpenter on Sunday, December 16th, in view of a public place, was ilned Os with 7s costs. A charge against Percy Kirkby for having assaulted Mary Green, was adjourned until January 11th, owing to the defendant not bavingbeen subpoenaed in sufficient'time. Mr B. J. Doiau appeared for ti-e informant, and Mr 0. A. Pownail for the defendant. Several oharjes against R. E. Howell and Co. for employing shop assistants after the closing hour on the statutory half-holiday were ad journed unt<l January lltb. Mr 13. J. Dolan appeared for the Inspector of Factories. William Davidson admitted a oharge of "dragging wire tho streets of Masterton without having the wire suspended, contrary to the Municipal Corporations Act." Tbe Magistrate imposed n fine of 5s with Vb costs, and allowed the defendant 14 days in which to pay the fine.
