MASTERTON GYMNASIUM.

The annual Medal Competitions in aouneotion with the Maafcerton Gym nasium were oonoluded, lost evening, when the girls' and ladies' olasses were examined in various exercises. Two [sealed handicap competitions were also held. Competition among the ladies was extremley keen, and the judge had some difficulty in .awarding the prizes. The girls' competition was also well contested. A feature of the contest was the number of beginneis who were competing. They all did their work well. Mr J. G. Eliott, who acted with Mr A. 0. Williams as judge of the girls' competitions, and who was sole judge in the ladies' competitions, said that the worn done by the olasses this year was exceptionally good all round, and reflected great credit on Mr A. Jewiss, the instructor. The results of the competitions were as follow:—Girls' Competition (48 points possible)— Thelraa Jackson, points, 1; Hazel Fuller, 44% points, 2; M. R ad, 42 %, points 3/ Ladies' Class (80 points possible)— Miss 0. Wintringbam, 69% points 1; Miss M. WintrinKhm 69 J£ points 2; Miss B. Church points 3. Ladies' Sealed Handicap Competition Miss E. Church (handicap 6), 71 % points, i; Miss E. Chapman (handicap 9), 70 points, 2. Men's Sealed Handicap Competition—W. Williams (handicap 10), 96 points, 1; A. C. Williams,, (handicap 2 behind), 95>0 points, 2; -B. Donald (handicap 5), 95 points, 3. The prizes will probably be presented on Friday, November 2nd. The ladies' team, which is to oompete agaiust a team from the Wellington Gymnasium will leave Masterton for Wellington on Thursday afternoon, and will return on Saturday evening. The competition will be held in Wellington on Friday evening. The team, which has been practising assiduously, will hold its final practice in tbe gymnasium at 8 o'clock this evening.
