—,—♦. The season of Mr J. 0. Williamcon's Dramatic Company will be inaugurated at the Town Hall, on Thursday next, by the first production in Mastorton of "Dorothy Vernon of Haddon Hall." The plot is simple—just a girl betrothed in infancy to-a baby boy, the son of a inHu who has since become the sworn enemy of her father. The latter has therefore repented of the betrothal, and would break tho bond by marryind his daughter Dorothy to her cousin, and so carry on the family name. She is a high-spirited girl, and refuses to be disposed of like a bale of goods, so defies her father and everyone who seeks to coerce her. Sir John Manners*— the gentleman betrothed to her in his infancy —appears upon the scone masquerading iu hor cousin's name, wins her heart and then is confounded l:y the arrival of the real cousin in question. There is uu under plot of intrigue and treachery, in which Queen Elizabeth and Mary Queen of Rents figure with Sir Jonn (bhrfatlior) and fcho unworthy uousin, Sir Malcolm Voruon. Dorothy becomes involved .—first to save her lover's ljfe, then his honour and Queen Mary's life. The action is said to be of Kbsorbing interest throughout, the gay cobtumes, exalting events, romantic atm/jsphoro and brilliant acting pair made it a record success throughout Australia.
