ALLEGED ILLEGAL OPERATION.

DUNEDIN, September 24
An inquest was held t;o day, touching the death of Margaret Keudrick, single, aged 25 years, housekeeper to her brother, who died in the hospital, on Saturday morning. Dr. Evans, in his evidence, said that he had been called to attend the deceased on the 19th inst., when she was ia a state of collapse. She at first said she was unable to account for her position, but ultimately she admitted certain things to him in oonfidenoe. She admitted that an illegal operation had been performed in a back rpom of the shop of J. R. Hayne. He attended hor in the hospital, and iu reply to her question h 6 told her he thought she hud little hope of recovery. She said the whole trouble was due to a young man, who was an engineer. The inquest was adjourned till Friday.
