THIRTY NEGROES KILLED,
HOSPITALS FULL OF WOUNDED.
Received September 2d, 9.18 p.m. NEW YORK, September 24. Severe anti-negro riots have occurred at Atlanta owing to tho newspapers announcing tnat five white women had been assaulted on Saturday. Moba iu ail parts of the oity attacked every negro iu the streets, using pistols, knives, sticks, aud atones. The polioe were powerlesp. The Mayor's appeals to the people were disregarded. Vain attempts were made to suppress the riots by bringing the fire engines into use. The traiua were searched aud negro passengers killed and badly beateu even when escorting uogiesses. One uegro was stabbed to death on the Post OUioe stene. The militia finally quieted the city, but were powerless outside. It ia feared that thirty innocent negroes have been killed. The hospitals are full of wounded.
