THE WESTLAND SEAT. ' - OOKITIKA, July 11. Mr Miehell, one of the caudidateff for tlie Westland seat, gave a final town address in the theatre tc-aight, before a very large attendahoe. s He bad a very patient hearing and a cordial reception at the handa of an enthusiastic audience. INDEPENDENT POLITICAL LABOUR LEAGUE. DUNEDIN, Jaiy 11. A pnblic meeting was held tonight, under the auspices of the looal branch of the Independent Political Labour League, for the purpose before the public the aims and objects of the League, and ** discussing the present political situation. '•' The Hon. Mr Bolt presided, and ther ( e waa an attendance of about 45 The Chairman, while expressing his approval of the platform, thought that it would be well for the Labour Party not to take up an isolated position in politio?, but they should have an alliance of some sort with the democratic and more progressive minus of the colony. Messrs J. T. Paul and R. Ferguson 'spoke in support of an Independent Labour Party. MrR. Breen dealt with the Employers' Association in connection with Mr Tregear's letter on Socialism. No resolution was passed in connection with the League, but it was resolved, to protest against the action of the Employers' Association in its monstrous attempts to limit his right aa a citizen and to bring discredit on him as a public official.
