WELLINGTON, July 11. Mr Lawrence Birks has been appointed Engineer-in-Charge torua from 51 applicants He took honours in chemistry, etc., at South Australian f University in 1893. lu 1896 he was appointed Assistant of Engineering at Heriot College, Edinburgh. Subsequently he returned to Adelaide, and, later on, was appointed Electrical Engineer to the Sydney City Couuoil, and held that position until 1903, when be canietoChristcbu«-cb, where he was installed as Eleotrical Engineer to the municipality. He was then leoturer to Canterbury College, and finally was chosen by the New Zealand Electrical Construction. Company as irs Engineer.
