A BARQUENTINE WRECKED.
LOSS OP TBE RIVER HUNTER. By Telegraph—Preaa Association. AUCKLAND, April 30. The barquentine River Hunter was totally wrecked as she was being towed into Whangape by the steamer Ohinemuri. The letter's rodder broke, and the barquentine drifted ashore on the South Head. The crew and their effects were saved. The Ohinemuri was struck by a huge sea, and her steering gear was carried away. The towline was out to save the steamer. The River Hunter was then driven on the rooks, and as a heavy sea was running she became a total wrtok. The captain and crew were landed with great difficulty. GISBORNE, ADril 30. The barquentine River Hunter was of 315 tons register. She was built in 1892, and owned by Captain Chrisp of Gisborne. The vessel was insured for £1,600 at Lloyd's. Captain Ohrisp, owner of the barquentine, estimates bis loss at £1,900 above the insurance. He purchased the vessel about nine months ago. The barquentine has been trading to Gisborne for many years, carrying coals from Newcastle. Captain R. A. Campbell was in command, [this being hiß first voyage on the vessel.
