BANQUETED IN NEW YORK
SPEECHES BY AMERICAN MINISTERS.

The Pilgrims' Club, at New York, banqueted the Earl of Grey, Go-vernor-General of Canada.
Mr Elihu Koot, American Secretary for Foreign Affairs, promised to try and get rid of all the boundary questions between tbe United States and Great Britain. He declared that 'wherever the British carry tbeir laws, institutions and customs tbe Americans breathe freely. Mr J. H. Choate said that Canada and tbe United Status bad one civilised law, one hope and aspiration. They ought to be able to settle all differences.
Earl Grey besought the Americans' friendly and powerful assistance in realising the destiny of Canada. He was convinced that the United States did not desire to annex Canada.
