THE BAKERS' CONFERENCE.
WANGANUI, February 9. The Bakers' Conference concluded to-day. The Aasooiation confirmed the principle of the Fare Pood Bill to'ensure a special inspection of bread and to prevent it being kept in stores unless under proper sanitary conditions. A resolution was carried affirming the opinion of the Conference that all bakers and sellers of bread should be licensed. The Finance Committee recommended, and the Conference adopted, that the annual subscriptions of the Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin branches of the Union should be £lO 10s, and all other Unions £3 3s, but that the Committee ask them to pay £5 5s if possible, in oider to strengthen the fund? of the Association, and so obviate the neoesssity of soliciting donations and making levies. On the motion of Mr White, of Dunedi'j, it was resolved, "that the various Master Bakers' Unions in New Zealand endeavour to arrange for the technical schools in their districts to place the teaching of bread-making on . their syllabus, and that the Association assist the schools in obtaining competent teachers." In regard to the weight of bread, it was resolved that the Conference considers that in addition to the twist and roll, barraoouta and French (and auy bread with any "shortening" in it) should be regarded as fancy brehd. The delegates are being entertained at a sociai and dance this evening.
