THE EXHIBITION.
February 9. The weekly official review of the progiess of the Mew Zealand International Exhibition states that tenders for the erection of the machinery hall for the Exhibition must be sent in to the Executive Commissioner's office by 4 o'clock, on Tuesday, the 13th day of February inst. Applications for space continue to come in from ail parts, and a considerable number have lately been received frum Australia. The Executive Committee visited the Exhibition Grounds this week to select a space for athletic and other sports during the Exhibition, and they have chosen a spot comprising about five acres, which ia situated near the space selected for the machinery hall. A strong committee of the Scotch Society has been formed, and they are in communication with other Scotch societies in Australia .with a view to setting the best representative pipers and dancers to compete at the Exhibition sports. Fresh tenders for the lighting of the Exhibition close on Saturday next, the lOlh inst. ut the Executive Comisaioners' offleei, at noon. The tender of Mes3rs Jajaioson Bros, for the concert hall of the inhibition has been accepten. subject to a certain modification of their plans. The Mines Departmeat having notified their intention of exhibiting a model mining plant, the Commissioners have selected a Bite suitable for the purpose- Arrangements are in progress with a view of engaging Madame Dolores for a series of concerts in the Exhibition Concert Hall. Dates have been pencilled in connection with various operatic, dramatic and other performances during the Exhibition period. Sir J. G. Ward has appointed Messrs Thomas Cook and Sons the official passenger agents to the rvew Zealand International Exhibition. The Premier has received a letter from the Premier of Queensland stating that he has much pleasure in accepting the.position of Commissioner for the State of Queensland ia connection with the Exhibition. At a meeting of the Military Affairs Committee, it was deoided to reoommend the Executive to approach the Government with a view of having a Defence Court at the Exhibition. Tne Selling of Rights Committee have recommended that the Government should instruct the High Commissioner in London to arrange with Messrs Pain and Co. for a number of displays of fireworks during the Exhibition, commencing at the latter end o-f December and terminating at the close of the Exhibition. The series is to consist of six special and twelve ordinary displays.
