THE BUTTER MARKET.

OPINION IN TARANAKI.

NEW PLYMOUTH, February 9.

No alarm has been caused in Taranaki by a reported collapse of the butter market, and it is olaimed that the market could stand a further drop, without bringing the average for the season below anticipations at the opening of the season, and the returns of the past few years. The experience of three of the past four years has been that butter shipped in February has arrived Home on a rising market, at about 110s, and it is hoped that there may yet be a similar recovery. On the whole there is not the slightest apprehension felt, and it is generally stated that too much of a scare has been created .put of the drop that must have been anticipated.
