THE TEARS' BUSINESS IN MASTERTON.
The number of cases dealt with by the Masterton police during tbo year 1905 was 357, as compared with 280 for 1904. Of the former 345 were arrested or summoned, 308 summarily eonvicted, 11 committed for trial, 26 discharged, and 11 warrants issued. The principal offences were—drunkenness 215, as against 159 for 1904; common assaults 15, as against 12; obscene and profane language 20, as against 10; theft (undesoribedl, 26, as against 11; vagranoy 9, as against 10; refusing to quit licensed premises 4 compared with 4 for 1904, disorderly and riotous conduct 5, compared with 6; false pretences 4, compared with 8; indecent exposure or behaviour 5, compared with 3; malicious injury to property 5, compared with 8; illegally shooting game 2, compared with 5; breaches of the peace. 5, compared with 1; burglary 4, compared with 1; and assaults and robbery 5, compared with 0. In all the above offences, excepting common assault, obsoene and profane language and theft, arrests have been effected in all cases reported. In the offences specified there were only four cases whero no arrests were effeoted, and for these warrants of arrest have been issued.
