LOCAL NEWS.
Mr. J. Purvis, local representative of the Wellington Hospital Board, had made all the necessaryarrangements to provide a Christmas Tree this year for children whose parents were under the social welfare in this district, but owing to the precautions now being taken against infantile paralysis, this had to be cancelled. Rather than disappoint the children, however, Mr. Purvis has been taking them one or two at a time for a car ride to Wellington, entertaining them to refreshments, also a visit to Father Christmas, and giving them each a present. The Upper Hutt R.S.A. are holding their annual dance on New Year's Eve at the Record Hall, and everyone is assured of a royal ■welcome. Monte Carlos, novelties and a good time is assured. The newly-formed Ratepayers' and Citizens' Association is reported to have already enrolled 500 members.
