Cr. Keys moved: "That the lease now offered by Mr. F. Whiteman on the Barton property be accepted." Seconded by the Mayor. On the suggestion of Cr. Howell it was decided to place men on the site immediately after the holidays to clear the ground. It was decided to set up a special committee consisting Of the Mayor, Crs. Keys, Howell and Purvis to g-o into all details, Cr. Guth-l-ie objecting on the ground that the Public Service Committee should have handled the matter. Notices of Motion. Moved by Cr. Sutherland: "That the 1 services of the office cleaner be discontinued and that an office boy (local) be appointed." After explaining his rea- i sons it was decided that the matter be ; left in abeyance until after the new Town Clerk's arrival. His Worship the Mayor (Mr. A. J. McCurdy) : "That all rates outstandingother than those of the current year, be sued for and that notice of intention to sue in respect of such rates be given during- the month of January in each year."—-Carried. Cr. Guthrie: "That with a view to reducing the running time of the trains between Upper Hutt and Wellington (apart from the rail cars which can only handle a limited number of passengers) the council approach the Railway Department and the Minister of that department to complete the double line between Waterloo and Upper Hutt. That an island station be constructed at Upper Hutt which would obviate passenger trains departing from the loop or sidings." Carried. The next council meeting was set down for Monday, January 18, 1937.
