WOMEN'S INSTITUTE MEETINGS UPPER HUTT.

The monthly meeting of the Upper Hutt Women's Institute was held on May 5, -when Mrs. Griffin, president, px*esided over a large gathering of members. Mrs. Driscole, who attended as a delegate to the Southern Wellington Federation Conference held recently at Paraparaumu, read a very interesting report of the meeting. Mrs. Lewis told of her tour of the West Coast Glaciers and the Southern Lakes of New Zealand to a vex-y interested audience. The competitions l-esulted as follows: Handkerchief made from a salt bag, Mrs. R. Campbell 1, Mrs. S. Braid 2. This competition was keenly contested and a beautiful display of work l-esulted. Cheese scones: Mrs. Collet 1, Mx-s. Pelling 2. Thrift article (for McCurdy Cup) : Mrs. Griffin 1, Mrs. S. Bi-aid 2. Mrs. and Miss Mumby, who acted as judges, were very heartily thanked. The following ladies were chosen asleaders of the various circles: Mrs. Wear (Ai-ts and Crafts); Mrs. Edwards (Singing); Mrs. C. Dalton (Dramatic); Mrs. Routley (Dancing-); Mrs. A. Benge (Bridge).
