ROXBURGH.
(From our own Correspondent:) *,
I think it is high time tHe Government saw fit to have a 'Resident Gold Receiver and Clerk of Court stationed here. * Updef the present arrangement everything connected with ttfe obtaining of documents and filling "up the same has to be done in a hurryj and very often parties are put to great loss and inconvenience in ha' ing to remain in tbe district from one court day to another.' All this public inconvenience is.caused by a parsimonious trying to save a few pounds. But it is very questionable if it does not instead actually result in a loss. Seeing the large amount of revenue derived from the district, it is a shame that the people are treated in this manner, and^l hope, that our Member will do all' he catTto have th*e requirements of the place properly attended to. I am sorry to have to report an accident to Mr. John Crossan, of Speargrass Flat, by which he sustained a broken leg — the result of a kick from a horse, which he received ! while attending a reaping machine. The horses became restive, and one of them commenced kicking and knocked Mr/ Crossan off his spat. He at the time was driving -the machine. I hear he is getting on well. Mr. M'Donald, the contractor for the bridge, has had to stop buildiug the foundation of tbe bridge, owing to some fault being found with the cement. The Court was held here on the 9th inst., .but the business was of a most desultory character. Quail v. Quail was settled by judgment being given for the amount paid into Court. In tbe cases of Mackay v. Smith and Beighton v. More, judgment by default was given. In the Warden's Court, the ease of My van v.. M'Kenzie came on for judgment. In this case plaintiff sought to compel M'Kenzie to let two heads of water flow down the bed of the creek, as the same was required for irrigation and domestic purposes. Judgment was given for plaintiff. Owing to some delay in the summons being filled up, the case of the Corporation v. M'Donald and party will not be heard until next Court day.
