WETHERSTONES SCHOOL MEETING.

The annual meeting for the election of a school committee was held in the school house on Wednesday evening last, when the following report was submitted to the meeting and adopted : - " In accordance with the usual custom we now submit to you our report for the past year. In doing so we desire to congratulate the inhabitants on the favourable results that have attended our efforts. In submitting to you our report for the past year, -we are painfully reminded of the great loss we have sustained by the sudden death of our late secretary Mr. Carr, who for many years took so deep an interest in the welfare of the school. The number of children who attended school for the past year was 77, with an average of

48. On account of the measels the school had to be close*! earlier than usual, and before the annual examination could be carried out, but it is purposed to have it as soon as convenient in the beginning of the year. We have still every confidence in the teacher (Mr. Johnston), and believe he has faithfully discharged his duties as in past years. And we think we may congratulate you on having secured the able services of Miss Jane Fowler, as school mistress." The receipts and expenses during the year have been as follows :—: — beoeipts. • expenditure. £ s. d. £ a. d. Government 165 14 6 Salaries - - 214 16 6 School Fees 60 0 0 Lights - - 416 6 Library - - 8 I 0 Library. - 8 0 6 Incidental - 0 4 0 Incidental- 18 0 Balance from Balance in last year - 215 11 hand - - 713 11 £236 15 5 £236 15 5 The following committee for the ensuing year was then elected, viz. : — Messrs. Mooney, Kofoed, Donnelly, Abrim, Murray, Kilbey, Smyth, Kemp, and Hunter. A vote of thanks to the retiring committee and chairman closed the proceedings.
