CLYDE.
(From our own Correspondent.) News you may say we have none. It seems that there is a general dulness prevailing over the whole district, which may in part be accounted for by the fact that we have scarcely got over our Christmas festivities. Poor Frank Murphy who met with an accident, and which you recorded in your last issue, died in the hospital, and was buried on Monday. There seems to have been quite a chapter of accidents of late, commencing with Hayes at the Kawarau G-orge, then M'Leod, then the unfortunate capsize of the coach, injuring Mr. Parsons severely (though I am glad to say he is progressing favobrably). Mr. Ulrich the geologist has been visiting the reefs at Bendigo and Carrick range : he was accompanied by the secretary for goldfields (Mr MX liar) and Mr. Preshaw of the banks of New South Wales, Cromwell. lam told he speaks highly of the Cromwell Company's claim, and its prospects as a gold producing lode. There is a report current that a good reef has been discovered in the locality of the Rough Ridge. Sluicing on the biinks of the Molyneaux baa been brought to a stand still, owing to the flood consequent upon the late heavy rains. The Pneumatic Dredge is quietly riding at anchor near Mutton Town Creek. From appearances the company are finding that it is not all gold that glitters, and unless they go on prospecting it is not likely gold will be got, and this cannot be done without cash. By the bye I see they are mating a call, therefore we may expect soon to see operations recommenced. Shearmgis about finished at theEarnscleugh Station, and harvesting operations are being commenced on some of the farms.
