Bluff, January 10. The Omeo, Captain Caller, left Melbourne at 8 p.m. on the 4th instant. She arrived off the Bluff at 8.30 p.m. on the 9th, and brings 35 saloon and 30 steerage passengers, 300 tons cargo, and 116 horses for all ports. She sails for Dunedin at 3 p.m. on the 11th. Passengers : Saloon — Mrs Hamilton, Mrs. Remmington and family (3), Misses Evans, Dennels, Campbell (2), Moran ; Messrs Craig, Orr, Eosß, Hemming, Cole, Scott ; Eev. J. C. Martin and family (3)!; and 30 in the steerage. She brings (for Dunedin) 200 tons cargo, and 90 horses in splendid condition. London, December 26. The death of Lord Homily, late Master of the Bolls, is announced. The corn market is firm. No Adelaide wheat in stock. Wool is steady. Stocks are low, with a moderate consumption. The next sales are fixed for February 23. Hemp is inactive, prices remaining steady. Arrived: Hampshire, from Melbourne ; Wennington and Dunedin. A railway accident occurred at Shipton which is unparalleled in the history of railway disasters. The train consisted of "two engines with 16 carriages attached, and was proceeding at the rate of 40 miles an hour, when the axle of a third class carriage next the engine broke. After running about 30 yards^ and tearing up, the back part of the train was precipitated over the embankment into a meadow, and part into a canal. The actual number of deaths reported is 31, and 50 persons are in the hospital at Oxford suffering from injuries. Another railway accident took place yester- | day. An express traiu on the North- Western I Railway dashed into a coal train at, Wigan. One person was killed on the spot, and 20 were injured. January 1. Fifty thousand miners have struck in various parts of Wales. January 2. Sir Hercules Robinson is gazetted a Knight of the Grand Cross of St Michael and St George ; and Mr. J. G. L. Innes, AttorneyGeneral, has been knighted for services rendered in connection with the annexation of Fiji. A Cospatrick Belief fund has been started. The Lord Mayor, and the owners of the vessel, Messrs Shaw, Savill, and Co., subscribed £200 each. '** The following deaths are announced : — Ledru Eollin, the French statesman ; and the Duke of Montrose. Berlin, December 26. An appeal is being prosecuted against the judgment in the Arnim case. Madrid, December 31. An Alphonist Pronunciamiento has been promulgated at Madrid. Don Alphonso, Prince <pt Asturias, and son of Queen Isabella, has been proclaimed King of '"Spain. He is recognised by the armies.
