Sydney, Dec. 23. The ship Appeal reports seeing a burning ship soon after leaving Calcutta riainc unknown. A boa*; found beached near Cape Morton, with two evident escapes from New Caledonia. Had only one oar, makeshift rudder^ spritsail, bagging jib, lib biscuits, and a pint of. water aboard, and no compass. They must have steered by the sun. The names given are Crone and Busnol. Another woman committed suicide in the Yarra. She left a note giving her watch and locket to whoever found her. The schooner Isabella, which has" arrived at Port Mackay, Queensland, from the Solomon Islands, brings a report that the second mate of the brig James Birne, and a boat's crew arrived there, and report that the vessel was taken by the natives and all hands nioeeacroil^ ttt Lord Uomc'tr Island. The moonligut concert at the Melbourne Botanical Gardens, in aid of the Orphan Asyluw, waß a great success. Daily telegraph communication between Singapore and Adelaide has been established by means of a floating station. The Melbourne Argus writing upon SullivaWs -case, 'says : — "We trust the Government will free the soil of Victoria from the presence of this garrulous assassin without delay. It has been suggested that there may be a difficulty in inlujing any captaiu to take him, as passengers might object to sailing in the same vessel with a man whose hands have been dipped in the blood of numberless victims. However if the difficulty stated -is found to -be insurmountable, we think that the • G-overument ought to send him down in the Pharos,' rather tbankeep him here in gaol.
