CABLE TELEGRAMS.
London, November 19th. The London Colonial wool sales opened on the 17th. The total arrivals amount to more than 80,000 bales, of which upwards of 5,500 bales were offered. Cape of Good Hope wool preponderated. Home buyers were more numerous than those from foreign countries, the bidding commenced with great spirit, and the prices ranged about the Bame as at the last series The steamer Great Britain arrived at Holybeacl on the 19th of November, "Alexander M'Ewan, a speculator on the stock exchange, has failed with liabilities amounting to £400,000. The mails from Sydney, via San Francisco, were delivered on the 18th. Mr. William Cleaver Robinson succeeds Mr. Weld as Governor of Western Australia. At London, the Colonial wool sales have been opened. Competition well maintained. The following telegram is from the New
Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, dated London, November 18th: [— " Wool sales opened level, and the last sale comprised about 88,600 bales ; 7000 bales have been sent to the manufacturing districts direct. For Cape of Good Hope scoured the market is easier.
