Sydney, November 21st. Tho body of an infant, supposed to have been murdered, was -found in Bourke street. The alleged mother has been arrested. A woman named M.' Vey was found diwned in a well at Burwood. Edward Rickaby, an employe in the sugar works, was killed by the door of the drying kiln falling. James Howlett was convicted on a charge of administring a noxious drug to Phoebe Hanks. Melbourne, November 21st James Dennis has been killed during a fight at Eltham. William Cameron is committed for manslaughter. Mr. Oliver, mining manager of the Great Northern Company, Stawell, was killed by being jammed in a cage. In the Legislative Assembly the Premier stated that a dispatch relative to the contribution towards the Government of Fiji only arrived by the mail, and that whatever action might be contemplated by the Government would be submitted to the House. The Government brought down a supplementary vote of £50,000 for school buildings. The convict Weechureli Las been committed for trial for murderously assaulting Warder Coghlan, At the university examination there were only two candidates, for the Shakespere Scholarship, but for matriculation there are 458 candidates including 77 females. Mr. Francis has resigned his seat for Richmond. The Carrier's Arms Hotel, Fitzroy was nearly destroyed by fire. The place was partly insured. A publican at Geelor>g was fined for holding a sweep on the Melbourne Cup. ' | Ramsden's new paper mills are opened. j The steamer Northumberland arrived after a passage of fifty-two days. The Spiritualists held a picnic at Woodend on Sunday, a special train being granted. Dr. Crane Was consecrated Bishop of Sandhurst by Cardinal Cullen, of Dublin, in September. Immenso flocks of locusts, covering an extent of more than a mile, have been passing through Ballarat, eating everything before them. The police have ascertained that a complete larrakin organization exists in Melbourne; that they have a club, and the members subscibe Is a week each to a fund which is devoted to the payment of fines inflcted upon members, £10 was deposited by the Becretary as bail for a larrakin on Saturday. The J funds in hand amount to £23. The Revenue Inspector has been found guilty of perjury in swearing that he bought liquor from an unlicensed house.
