(From the Dunedin Dailies. ) Weixington-, September 11th. The New Zealand Graze tte to-day announces that Mr E. Pryce Houghton has been appointed Vice-Consul for Germany at Dunedin. The following gentlemen have been appointed Justices of the Peace — Christopher Bastian, Dunrobin Station ; A. C. Begg, F. C. Boyes, H. Lyons, Eiverton ; J. M'Gregor, Bur wood Station; J. M'Neil Balclutha ; J. M. Ritchie, W. J. Steward, Waitaki, Lieut. W. M. Heywood has been appointed to be captain — date of commission Sept. 4th — and to command the Volunteers in the Southland portion of the Province of Otago. Mr E. H. Carew has been appointed Auditor of Courts of Law Trust Account 3 for Clutha, and also Resident Magistrate for the same district, with extended jurisdiction, during the absence on leave of Mr J. P. Maitland. Mr J. Turnbull has been appointed Resident Magistrate for the district of Southland. Captain Fairchild is to go Home to purchase a new steamer for the Government in place of the Luna. Produce prices. —Flour, £12 15s to £13 10s ; oatmeal, £24 to £25 ; wheat chick, 4s 6d ; milling, 5s 6d ; oats 4s lOd to 5s ; bran, Is 5d to Is 6d ; hams and bacon, 10 Jd to Is; cheese, BJd to 9d. I September 12th. It is understood that Mr Walter Kennaway, the Provincial Secretary of Canterbury, has been appointed Secretary to the Agent- General, and that he will go home shortly to enter upon hia duties. September 14th. . The "Times" states that Mr. Yogel expects to be back in Wellington within five or six months after the date of his departure. Sir Donald M'Lean is expected to visit his constituents at Hawke's Bay at an early date. It is understood that, before His Excellency leaves the Colony, he will exercise the prerogative of mercy in the case of Alexander M'Donald, now undergoing a sentence of penal servitude for shooting a mail coach horse. It is also understood that Mr. R. C. Creighton assumes the editorship of the " New Zealand Times" at the end of the month. Atjck.la.nd, September 11th The Loch Urr arrived to-day from London, after a passage of 94 days from Gravesehd. She brings no passengers The Reform League have held a public meeting, the Mayor Chairman, and passed resolutions in favor of the abolition of Provincialism throughout the Colony. They intend establishing Committees and branches of the Society in all parts of the Colony. Mr Buckland reports : — Fat sheep. — 630 were sold at higher rates. Dairy cows, £5 to £9 10s calves, £1 5s to £2 2s. Fat cattle, 35a to 45a per lOOlbs. Sheep, 5d per lb; ewes and lambs, £1 4s 6d. Mr Binney reports . — Breadstuff's are improving. Flour, £13 10s to £14 ; oats, 5s 3d to 6s 3d ; barley, 5s 6d ; wheat, 6s to 6s 3d. Butter is very scarce, at Is 3d. Cheese, 8| ; ham and bacon, lOd to lid. September 12th. Mr Beveridge, Provincial Solicitor, died to-day after a protracted illness. Yatterina has been scratched for the Canterbury Handicap, owing to excessive weight. Te Whaka, the chief who murdered Nuku at Hokianga in 1868, and who was sentenced to death, which sentence was afterwards commuted to imprisonment for life, but who escaped from gaol three months afterwards, and has been living concealed with his friends, came into town with the Hokianga R. M. to-day, having j received a free pardon. September 14th. The official scrutiny in connection with j the Waitemata election resulted in the striking off of 18 double votes from Von der Heyde, and 20 from. Macfarlane, leaving a majority for Von der Heyde of 62. The Macgregor with the San Francisco mail, is due, and it is expected Mr. Yogel and Mr. Russel will proceed to Sydney in her. Mr. Saunders reports sales of Beach ! at 203. Buyers of Bank of New Zealand, £17 12s. 6d. ; National Bank, £3 Bs. ; Caledonian, £8 155. ; City of London, £1 4s. Sellers of South British at £2 13s. Napier, September 11th. At the cattle sales held by Mr M. R. Miller, 293 head of stock were sold, the total amount realised being £1734. September 14th. The whole of the trout ova and young fisli at Hastings are dead. They are J supposed to have been maliciously destroyed. There is strong suspicion as to where the guilt lies, but no proof, Christchurch, September 11th. The following are the produce market quotations, free on board, at Lyttelton : — Wheat, 5s 3d ; oats, 5s ; barley, 5s 6d ; potatoes, £8 ; flour, £13 10s ; bran, £6 ; sharps, £6. The market is quite bare of barley and potatoes. Tauranga, September 12fch, Mr Bodell, auctioneer, reports sales of good hacks at from LlO to Ll7 ; Draught horses, Ll2 to L 22;2 2; Dairy cows, L 7 to LlO ; two-year-olds, L 2 to L 5 ; yearlings, LI 10s .to L 2 10s ; potatoes, L 8 per ton ; Town sections are changing owners at high prices. The Government offices have been nearly completed, and the immigration cottages are in course of erection. OjUEENSTOWN, September 14th. The Shotover Terrace Co.'s claim is looking rich. The last yield was 57 ounces. The trout ova are all hatched, and the yonng fiah are looking well.
