RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT, LAWRENCE.

(Before E. H. Carew, Esq., R.M.) Friday, 11th September.

Police v. Anderson. — The accused was charged with permitting a horse to wander in Lawrence. He pleaded guilty, aud was fined 10s., and costs of Court 55." 6d. Police r. Chu Qui. — This was a similar case, and was similarly dealt with. Police v. Ledgerwood. — The accused was Charged with permitting one co\r, her property, to wander in Lawrence. She pleaded guilty, but said she was a widow and had five young children to support. His Worship mentioned that he would permit the charge to be withdrawn. Sergeant FarreU said he did not think he would be justified in withdrawing the charge j but he did not press for any high penalty. His Worship said that under the circumstances the usual fine might be more severely felt by Mrs. Ledgerwood than in ordinary cases. He would inflict a fine of Is., without costs. Oudaille v. Clark. — Mr. Copland asked for and obtained an adjournment for one fortnight. He Agnes Taylor. — Mr. M'Coy applied that Mrs. Taylor, the widow of the late Andrew Taylor, of the Tuapeka Mouth Hotel, Pmld be permitted to carry on the business rthroe months. Granted. M'Coy v. The Corporatian of the Town of Lawrence. — Mr. Henderson for the plaintiff ; Mr. Copland for the defendant. Some further evidence was given in this case ; and Mr. Coplarift having raised several points for the defence, His Worship reserved judgmeut for fourteen days.

His Worship said that for some time he should have additional duties to attend to,

which would make it necessary to change tho
