WASTE LANDS BOARD.
The usual weekly meeting of the Board was held on Thursday morning. The following members were present : — The Chief Commissioner (in the chair), Messrs. Butterworth, Clark, John Eeid, and Strode. APPLICATION TO PURCHASE LAND ON BUN BY LICENSE, Mr. C. L. Swanson applied to purchase 320 acres on Kun 123, Wendon district. The applicant stated that, under the 36th section of the Waste Lands Act, 1872. anybody who put up improvements prior to the passing of the Act was entitled to purchase 320 acres. Ho had put up improvements on this portion of his run, and he considered he was entitled to purchase under that section. Ho had not purchased quite 640 acres. The Chairman did not think that the Act gave power to sell any more than 640 acres to the runholder. He did not think the holder of the license was entitled to purchase under the 36th section. # Mr. Strode thought that Mr. Swanson, not as the runholder, but as one of the general public, was entitled to apply for 320 acres under the section referred to. Messrs. Clark and Keid agreed with the Chairman, and the following minute was recorded. " Power only to lease up to 640 acres. Applicant may apply for balance of that amount if adjoining his present holding." LEASE OF LAND AT WAIPAHEE FOE AGEICULTUBAL PUBFOSES. Mr Stout on behalf of Mr. James Black, applied for a lease for agricultural purposes of section 65, block VII,, Waipahee. It was decided that if a license were granted it should be made known, in order that the settlers might have an opportunity of applying. APPBOVAL OF PLAN OF AGEICULTTTBAI. LEASE. Mr. Howorth, on behalf of Messrs. Stewart, and Gow, applied for approval of plan of proposed application for agricultural lease of 640 acres on run 328. The matter was referred to the District Land Officer at Invercargill. APPLICATION FOB LEASE OF SECTIONS AT GLENKENICH. Mr. John Youngson applied for a lease of sections 12, 13, and 16. block VII., Glenkenich District. The Board came to the conclusion that they had no pewer in the matter. BEQUEST FOB BEFUND ON PTJBCH.YSE MONEY. Mr. Donald Beid, solicitor, Tokomairiro, on behalf of Mr. Peter M'Gill. requested the Board to refund purchase money on account of 9^ acres deficient in sections 28 and 29, block IV., Wyndham. The application was referred to the Government. LAWYEKS DIFFEB. A question came before the Board as to the price agricultural lessees who exchange under clause 62 of the Otago Waste Lands Act, 1872, should have to pay as purchase money. Mr- Boon's opinion — agre&dfcfco by the Board on February 6th, 1873 — was 'that it should ~be 17s 6d in 14 payments, extending over seven years. The Provincial Solicitor's opinion now was that it should be 255. payable as follows : — 3s 6d per acre for fhe first year, -and 3s 7d per acre for the other six years. After discussion, the Board resolved to obtain the opinion of his Honor the Judge on the subject. -The Board then adjourned for a week ,
