WASTE LAND BOARD.

The usual weekly meeting of the members of the Waste Land Board was held on Thursday. Present: Mr. Commissioner Thompson, and Messrs. Strode, Bastings, Clarke, Butterworth, and Ecid. Geekutale. — Mr. J. H. Herbert made an application to purchase a sufficient portion of the village reserve adjoining section 1, block 11., Greenvalc, to enable him to fence clear of the lagoon. — Under clause 161, a license was granted to occupy at £1 per annum, applicant only to enclose what is absolutely necessary to enable him to fence in liis property. Naseby District.— Mr. Stratford was appointed Land Officer for this district, during the absence of Mr. Warden Robinson. Axother PiiosE^r. — Mr. Or. F. C. Browne sent in a letter protesting against H. Bruce mining for lignite on Crown Lands, in the same locality in which he holds the lease. — The Board gave instructions to the Resident Ranger to carry out the law on the subject, in terras of section 93 of the Waste Lands Act, 1872. ToKOHAiEiEO. — Mr. E. W. Capstieb was appointed auctioneer for this district. Lawbence. — A similar appointment was made, in the case of Mr Hay, for this district. Clyde. — It was resolved that a letter should be written to Mr. Stanbrook, auctionneer, at Clyde, requesting him to carry out his engagement. A Road Fenced Ix. — The Wetherstones Progress Committee made complaint that Mi. Win. Smyth had fenced in a portion of the road through Wetherstones to Grabriels. — The matter was referred to the Government. PESIBEOKB.— The District Officer of Clyde transmitted the petition of Theodore Eussol, under clause 29, to purchase a piece of land occupied by him in Pembroke. — The petitioners were informed that the Board had no power to act in the matter. Decision Re-considered. — The reconsideration of the decision of the Board to reserve sections 12, 13, and 16, block VII., Glenkenich, and which had been advertised for sale by auction, was proceeded with. — The sales were ordered to proeec.l. Phe-eiiptite Eights.— The Board next proceeded to the consideration of the application of Russell, Ritchie, and Co., for the New Zealand and Australian Lands Company, that they might be allowed to have the two prc-emptives for runs 209 and 11 in one block, to include also a part of run 255. which they hold under an arrangement with Sir F. D. Bell. — It wa3 resolved that the runs should be s\irveyeJ by the applicants, and the respective pre-emptive rights granted, as per regulations. — Mr. Bastings moved tJiat in future all pre-emptive rights be granted strictly in terms of the regulations iv regard to frontages. — Agreed to. Waipahi. — Mr. George Canecross applied for a lea?e of the 75 acres north of the railway, and joining the village reserve in block Waipahi. — Referred to the Banger for his report. Tapait tti. — Messrs. Connell and. Moodie, for Crawford and Youngson, applied to purchase five acres of land near Tapanui. for manufacturing timber. The following resolution was come to : — Survey to be submitted ; then to be sold by auction as lands of special value, upset price £3 per acre.
