WARDEN'S COURT, LAWRENCE.
(Before E. H. Carew, Esq., Warden.) January 28th, John M. Smith applied for an agricultural lease of sections 96 and 97, block I, Waitahuna West ; objected to by T. W. Mailler on the ground that the locality was auriferous. Eefused. Thomas Jamison applied for an agricultural lease of sections in Dalhousie Reserve, Block I, Waitahuna West. Mr. Squires appeared for the applicant. Objected to by M'lntyre and others. This application was refused, as a similar one for the same locality had been refused formerly on the ground that the land was probably auriferous. His Worship stated that the ground would not be leased until it had been prospected and proved nonauriferous. Leonard Ilardy had applied for an agricultural lease of section 10, block VI, Waitahuna West. He now, through Mr. Gooday, withdrew the application and requested that the monies deposited for survey fees should be returned. His Worship deferred Mr. Gooday to the surveyor, Mr. Adams, if the money was returnable. He (the Warden) would do what he could to assist Mr. Gooday in obtaining restitution. Hug'i Ross applied for an agricultural lease of section 73, block IV, Tuapeka East. Adjourned for survey. John Eoss applied for an agricultural lease of section 57, block 11, Tuapeka West. Objected to by Wm.- Labes. William Labes gave some evidence. His Worship said that had he been satisfied by the evidence of Labes he would have allowed him- expenses. He refused the application from what he knew of the ground, as he thought the probabilities were in favour of its being auriferous, and not bora, the evidence offered by the objector.
Abraham Blundell withdrew an application for a head race. It appeared that he had lost his certificate; hence the application, on finding it, he withdrew his application, and made another to re-register it. His Worship said he had no power, as it was within the town boundary. James Cook applied for an agricultural lease of section 5, block VIII, Hill End. If r. M'Coy appeared for applicant. This application was adjourned for a short time to enable the Warden to consult the records, as it was not certain that it was open for leasing. On its appearing that 'it was so open, the application was granted. Certifi ate to issue on payment of the first half-year's rent. Philip Duffy applied "for an agricultural lease of section 39, block VI, Tuapeka West. Granted. Certificate to issue on payment of the first half-year's rent. Simon Fahey's application for a residence area, was granted. Havilah Hill G-old Mining and Water Eace Company applied for a mining lease at Two Stone Hill. Adjourned for survey. Reef Creek Quartz Company applied for a raining lease, situate at Waipori, adjoining the ground of the old 0.P.Q., Company. Adjourned for survey.
