(Fronk our own Gorrespondenty January 18th. We hare had some very disagreeable weather lately ; co\d southerly winds, accompanied by squalls of raiu and sloet and quite a wintry temperature. At' Bald Hill Flat there have been, several sharp frosts, causing some damage to the potato crop. The annual election of Hit Alexandra School Committee took place in the schoolhouse on the 12th inst. There was a vtry meagre attendance. Messrs. D. Robertson. J. Terry, D. M'Donald, P. Calder, R. MVcer, W. Theyers, and J. Rivers were elected toyjinbers of the Committee. None of the retiring Committee were candidates for re-electiob. A numer of miners in this district, tempted by the repor-ts of the high wages given, hav ( s started down country for the harvest, mostly* in the direction of Oamaru. His Excellency the Governor, accompanied by his Honor the Superintendent, arrived at Alexandra on Wednesday, the 14th inst. The weather in the forenoon was very boisterous, with heavy rain, and doubts were expressed whether his Excellency would leave the Teviot. In the afternoon the weather cleared up, and the business people in tho township hoistod their flags as a token of welcome. The Governor and party arrived about 8 p.m. The Mayor and Councillors were introduced to his Excellency, who, was invited to partake of refreshments •which "had been provided in the hall of the Public Library. The Governor expressed his regret that the lateness of the hour compelled him to decline the hospitality offered him, but said he hoped on his next visit to be able to spend more time in Alexandra- After a short stay the party proceeded on their way to Clyde,
