HAVELOCK.

Sports were held on the Havelock racecourse on Saturday afternoon last. The Race Committee having money in hand from the two days' meeting on December 26th and 27th, thought it best to give the public the r benefit of it. A large number of people assembled, but it was late in the afternoon before anything was done to amuse them. The £15 handicap, 1J mile heats, open to all ■comers, previously announcad by us to take place was the principal event of the day, and, much to the disappoinment of the people present, only brought three horses to the post. Oudaille's Grasshopper, 7st 3 0 This race had more than local interest, as it was made partly with the intention of testing the relative strength of the Waitahuna " Chinaman," who had beaten everything easily on the same course, and any horse that had formerly been brought from Tuapeka. Sultana «asily won the laurels from her antagonist, although she had to give him 2st. 71b. The second heat was won in a canter. 400 Yahbs Foot Race — Ist prize, £1 ; 2nd, 10s. There were six entries. T, Stuart, 1 ; J. Davidson, 2. Louis Walker, who was running very strong, unfortunately fell a few yards before reaching the winning post. " A trotting match was improvised. Five gentlemen subscribed a £1 a piece and sent their horses for the money. Mr. A. M'Phereon's Rambler was the winner. ; Several minor events, private matches, &c, were well contested. Kies-in-the-ring and other out-door amusements were kept up till dusk, a very enjoyable afternoon having been spent. The thanks of the public are due to the energetic Committee and their worthy I Secretary, Mr. F. Moyle, for catering bo liberally to the public amusement.
