catch weights. Several horses started for this race. Mr. A. J. M'Pherson's Gamecock, ridden by Monaghan, was the winner. As the result of this race, the handsome sum of £9 goes to the funds of the Tuapeka Hospital. A trotting match between Rambler and Tommy was run in the afternoon, Rambler, ridden by Mr. A. M'Pherson, won easily. This concluded a pleasant meeting. Every one was well satisfied. Mr. Carlaw officiated as starter, ; Mr. A. M'Pherson took the place of Mr. R. M'Leod as clerk of the course; and K. M'Lennan, Esq v acted as judge. Each gentleman performed his arduous task in a manner that met with the approbation of all concerned.
