Wellington, December 20.
The Jockey Club has. resolved to raise £1,000, on 10 per cent, debentures, for the purpose of erecting a grand stand. Plans are in preparation. A private letter from an officer of H.M.s. Pearl, now at Levuka, gires as an on d'U that New Zealand will be the future head-quarters, instead of Sydney. The writer expects that, if Fiji be not annexed, there will be a revolution, as the people are all in favour of the scheme. Auckland. December 20. The Turf Club booths and gates for the approaching race meeting were sold to-day for £600. The sale of Lurline, Kakapo, Papapa, I Batter, Taringa, Spritsail, Songstress, and a three-year-old filly by Ravensworth out of Star of the South, to Perkins, is confirmed. The Onehunga Railway was opened officially to-day by the Superintendent. A large number of ladies and gentlemen were present by invitation from Messrs. Brogden. Further evidence has been taken in the case against the doctor of the Chile, and it was adjourned to Tuesday.
