LOCAL PUBLIC WORKS.

(To the Editor. ) Sib, — May I presume upon your kindness in admitting a few lines from an old traveller? In the course of my travels, I may remark, that M'hile I keep an eye open on the main chance, I also keep an eye open for things in general. It is very gratifying to the travelling public to see that such vast works are going on to accommodate the future traffic of this province — an extensive system or network of railways, bridges being built, and road-making proceeding at an enormous rate and outlay in every part of the province. All these improvements convince me that we have a goahead Government, and particularly that the goldfields are now blessed with a gentleman who has entered into .our wants and necessities, and who understands how to meet those wants. It is also due to the members of the Executive generally, that it is their desire that every place and party in the province should meet with that attention which their respective cases demand. I was glad to notice that some party (I suppose), in the interests of the Humane Society, have built a lighthouse on a point at the bottom of Lee's Creek. This will be a great advantage to small craft coming up this tortuous channel; but even then I would recommend vessels of larger carrying capacity to anchor on the other gide of the stream, and under the protection of the great guns of Lawrence. I may again trouble you with a few remarks as I proceed further on in my journey. — I am, &c., A Tbavelli b
