IMPORTS AND EXPORTS.

( To the Editor. ) Sir, — In papers which are published at seaports — for example, Dunedin and Oamaru — the journals publish lists of imports and exports — that is to say, not merely the totals received and the totals exported, but the imports and exports of each trade* in the locality, In a city, the population of which amounts to hundreds of thousands, this minute system would have to be abandoned ; and, I think, so far as concerns the public, what any one merchant receives or exports, is not of sufficient public importance to warrant its publication. But if seaport shopkeepers are permitted, gratis, to tell the world how much goods they import and export, why should not inland traders be permitted publicly to record how many waggon loads they receive and send away. — I am, &c, Qfebist.
