WARDENS' COURT, LAWRENCE.

(Before E. H. Carew, Esq., Warden.) AVednesday, 2nd July. The applications of R. Ledlie, James Taylor, W. Al'Nicoll, W. Oaborne, S. White, James Hill, and Wm. Livingstone for agricultural leases in Waitahuna East and West were adjourned for one month. Mr. Adams, surveyor, explained to the Warden that, in consequence of survey pegs in so many instances being removed, he was unable to complete surveys which otherwise could have been done. The application of Mr. Jas. Thompson for section 19, block IV., Waitahuna East, was applied for by Mr. Copland and objected to by the Waitahuna Miners' Committee, as being auriferous. Thomas fteadpath deposed that he is an occupier of 92 acres of rural land under an agricultural lease. Knew the ground applied for, and had ; during snowy weather, worked ]it oft' and on for 3 weeks with another man, and earned about 253. per week each ; but only worked about half-time. Worked in a gully, but found gold on the hill in a race thac was cut. Guiseppe Dominico, a miner during 9 years past, gave evidence that he knew tho land applied for, and had worked in it last winter for about three weeks along with Readpath, and made about 255. per week, and sometimes it paid more. Got Goz. lOdwt. in a 1. Mr. Copland here drew the Warden's attention to the fact that the witness was winking. In finswer to Mr. Ooplartcl 7 tKo witness said he intended to try again for gold in the same spot ; but thought that tho only part that would pay was the creek. Believed that Chinamen could make it pay. Mr. Coplond stated to the Warden that his client was not aware that any opposition would bo offered to the application, and was consequently taken by surprise. Mr. Joseph Ferris appeared to oppose the application on the part of tho Waitahuna Miners' Association. Adjourned to the 30th July, to procure report and have the land surveyed. Hugh Clark's application for an agricultural lease of section 6, block , was objected to by W. Hind. No appearance of the objector. Adjourned for one month, to enable the Warden to personally inspect the ground aud have survey prepared. The application by a A. Fraser for an agricultural lease section , block , was adjourned for one month. E. Legg's application for an agricultural lease of sections 20 and 21, block IV., Table Hill, was granted. James Downes applied for an agricultural lease of section CO, block 111., Tuapeka East. The Warden stated that he had received instructions from the Government not to entertain any applications for agricultural leases within one mile of the town ; but, as Mr. Downes' application had been in some time, he would report specially thereon; and communicate the result when received. The applications of James Anderson, Thomas M'Mullin, and Robert Sutherland for agricultural leases were adjourned for one mouth. Residence area — Charles Jansen. — Granted.
