Subsequently it -was proposed and seconded, that the services of Mr. Lawson be secured to prepare preliminary plans for approval by the Council. A letter from Messrs. Fergussoa and Mitchell in reply to enquiries about cost of engraving debenture coupons was read, and the Mayor was requested to see to the matter when next in town. It was proposed by Cr. Herbert, Esq., Mayor, and the members of the Municipal Council. Gentlemen,— l have the honor to report for your information that much annoyance and damage to gardens, &c, is now being done by cattle and horses being permitted to run at large during the night. As the Impounding Ordinance forbids any person to impound cattle during the night time, 1 would respectfully beg that you would devise some plan whereby cattle could be detained until morning, and then placed in the pound. I would beg to suggest that a small yard be erected in some place within the town boundary, which would enable me to put a stop to the nuisance which is now complained of by so many of the citizens. — I have the honor to be, gentlemen, your obedient servant, E. TITCHENKB, Inspector of Nuisances. Lawrence, June 9th, 1873. To E. Herbert, Esq., Aiayor, and gentlemen of the Municipal Council. I have the honor to report for your information that I have seen Mr. Alex. Humphrey in reference to his removing » part of the kerbing ia Ross Place. Mr. Humphrey states that he is desirous of putting a crossing in the footpath 20 feet wide. This would enable him to enter the right-of-way adjoining his premises. He expresses hiswillingness to make a good crossing with Blue Spur boulders. I believe that this application is a reasonable one, and would respectfully beg to recommend it to your favorable consideration. — I have the honor to be, gentlemen, your obedient servant, E. TITCHENEB, Inspector of Nuisances. It was proposed and carried that immediate action be taken to remedy the evil complained of by the Inspector of I Nuisance as to the impounding of ! cattle. Mr. A. Armstrong asked permission to place a culvert under the road at the rear of the Commercial Stables, which matter was referred to the Public Works Committee with power to act. Councillor Hay Btated that Messrs. Downie and Detert were willing to complete the unfinished portion of tho Beaumont road towards Williams' store, about six chains in length, at their schedule prices ; but it was suggested as a matter of fairness to the public and other contractors, the job should be let by tender. ; The standing orders were therefore suspended to enable Cr. Hay to move that tenders for the extension of the road to the western boundary of the town be called for. Cr. Hayes seconded the motion, which was carried.
