Sib,— We, the undersigned being members of the (Jjinm.ttee of the above ins' itution, • hprpl y request you to convene a., meeting of ;' ifce. Committee for .Friday, the 3rd instant, at

8 o'clock p.m., to consider the action taken by certain members of the Committee last evening— such action being illegal through the want of a proper quorum ; and we are impelled to this course, believing that the business of the institution should be conducted according to to the rules, and with fairness to all. We are, sir, your obedient servants, Robert M'Kimmie. Alex. Humphrey. Georse Walker. Thos. Arthur. The Secretary also read the following protest : . T Lawrence, Ist January, 1873. Mr. William Hayes, Secretary to the Tuapeka District Hospital. Sir,— As one of the tenderers for the supply of groceries, &c, to the Tuapeka Hospital, I hereby protest against the decision arrived at by the meeting held last evening by your Committee, on the ground that ihe meeting so held had no right to deal with the matter, a legal quorum not being present ; and, therefore, any business transacted was done by the persons present in their private capacity as individuals, and not as representing the management of the Hospital. I am, sir, your, obedient servant, Thomj«4 Arthur. In answer to a question, the Secretary said that only five members were present at last meeting, and that the minutes were recorded in the usual way. Mr. M'Eimmie moved: "That the proceedings at last meeting be declared null and void, and that the meeting now prcceed to decide on the tenders sent in." The Secretary stated thai? in every case the lowest tender had been accepted by the previous meeting. Dr. Stewart pointed out that, according to the rules, the course now proposed to be adopted was illegal. The Committee must call for fresh tenders, or otherwise they could not legally deal with the matter. Dr. Halley concurred with Dr. Stewart. Mr. Goldsmith suggested that Mr. M'Kimmie should embody in his motion that fresh tenders be called Mr. M'Kimmie agreed to the alteration suggested by Mr. G-oldsmifch, and for the latter portion of tbe motion substituted that fresh tenders be advertised for, to be sent in by the 10th inst. Dr. Halley seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr. Hay, the collector, stated that he had been fairly successful in his canvass of the district. He had paid to the Treasurer £60 ; he had about £10 or £12 in hand, and about £160 remained on his own list, irrespective of the amounts on lists in other hands. A long discussion ensued as to the supply of the hospital till tbe 10th. Finally' it was resolved' that those whose tenders had been accepted by the meeting on the 31st December should be asked to supply the institution till the date mentioned.; if they tJecTTnedTo do so, the previous contractors to be requested to continue supplying. The meeting then adjourned till Friday, the 10th inst.
