OPHIR PROGRESS COMMITTEE.
The monthly general meeting of the above body was held on Monday, the 4th inst. Present: Mr. J. Cheesman (Chairman), Messrs. Ryan, Leaßk, Fitzgerald, Pitches, and H. Dixon (Secretary). j The minutes of the special meeting were read and confirmed.
A letter from the Secretary of the Blacks School Committee consenting bo the Progress Committee having tha use of the school for tbeir meetings was read. A letter from Mr. J. G. G. Glassford consenting to the committee applying to the Waste Lands Board for three acres of land on his run for a cemetery, was also read. Mr. Ryan 'proposed, and Mr. Leask seconded, that the standing orders as read by the Chairman be adopted. Carried.
It was resolved that a letter be forwarded to the Provincial Executive, asking that Mr. E. H. Carew be appointed registrar of births, deaths, and marriages for the district. It was also resolved that application be made to the Waste Lands Board for three acres of land to be surveyed on Mr. Grlassford's run as a cemetery, the runholder's cons >nt to accompany the application. A resolution passed at a public meeting asking the Progress Committee to take charge of the boat was read, and the Committee decided to accept the charge for their term of office.
Relative to the memo'fial for a commonage, the Chairman said copies had b i en distributed for signature and had not yet been returned. He, however, expected to be able to forward them to the Government by next mail.
A vote of thanks to the chair brought the proceedings to a conclusion.
