OUR QUARTZ REEFS.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Recent events seem to indicate j that Tuapekit is destined to be the centra I of a large quart? mining district. It therefore behoves the inhabitants to lend their aid towards developing the reefs, as it is well known that many of the prospectors are noor men, and unable to procure machinery. There are now ten • claims in course of being prospected, in the success of which each resident of Tuapeka is directly interested. I therefore suggest the formation of a company to purchase a small machine, to cost, say LSOO. There are plenty of water and other conveniences available. This cannot fail to be a remunerative speculation, to judge by the experience of other places, and those who took shares would have the satisfaction of developing the resources of the district, and at the same time be receiving a handsome bonus for ' so doing. I throw this out as a suggestion, and I am willing to take up shares to the extent of L2O. — I am, &c, H. Bastings. Lawrenco, Jan 24th, 1872.
