On the application of Clayton and others for permission to pmsuect within the agricultural lease of Gilbert Clark, permission was grntaed,' upon their depositing in the hands of the Court LlO, for sinking two shafts ; and should any more than two shafts be sunk, the further sum of L 5 per shaft.

Wednesday, Jan 24 A lease of four acres was granted to Mr Squires, for quartz mining purposes, at Canada Reef. An additional grant of two acres was maed, on which to deposit tailings.

George Munro was granted an agricultural lease of*twelve acres near his homestead, there being no objection. The hearing of Marks and Wedlock's application for a gold mining lease took place. Objections were lodged by T. F. Morris and party, also by Mr. Best. Mr. Morris appeared for himself and mates, and Mr. Gooday for Mr. Best. , The ground fof objection was stated as 'follows : — That Marks and party had applied for ten acres, and had pegged off upwards of fourteen. The two parties objecting stated that they wished to take up the surplus area. Morris and party had pegged out this surplus ground. The Warden said that by this step, Morris and party had kid themselves open to an action for trespass. He further ruled that so long as the ground pegged out did not exceed the greatest area allowed by the .Regulations, he could not entertain the objections. Lease granted. .
