NEW TEAR'S DAY IN ALFXANDRA.

The Alexandra Knees and Athletic Sports came off on New Tear's Day. Although the weather was disagreeably duery, there was a large assemblage of spectators — Clyde visitors mustering strongly. The racing was good, and a pleasant day's amusement was enjoyed by all present. Tn the evening there was a ball in the Library, which was well attended, there being 50 couples present. Dancing commenced at 10 p.m., and, excepting intervals for refreshment, was kept up with uninterrupted spirit, till 7 a.m The music was excellent, and everything went ofVas they should do. All present agreed that it was one of the best affftiiM that ever took place in Alexandra.

Maniototo ... 1 Tonic . . - .• 2 The two raced well together until within, a quarter of a mile of home, when Tonic whs passed, aud lost all chance of the race.
