TAPANTUI.
(From a Cortespotident.)
Not .having anything very particular to do on Christmas l>ay, T took a stroll to the cricKet ground to have a look a*; fche performance of our lately'-esfcaUlislied cricket ciuW.. On arrival I found a great many had preceded me, and were watchiu« tiiis manly and invi^oßtfing game with keen interest^ A match was j-int about to commence between eleven benedicts and thirteen bachelors— the sides having beeu chosen by Hewitt and Neiali. The single man were the' first to take the bat and were quickly disposed of for 37 — n-me of th?ir number having obtained double figures. The married men made a much batter stand and when fche last wicket f- 11 72 was called. I may ■here state that the Benedicts had decidedly the advantage in bowling both Perry and Hewitt being in good form and st-ndin,' them in swift and straight. In the second innings the bachelors made a butter stand. Neish and CaMfe netting well •i way with 15 and 8 respectively, but the b iwiing was too hot for the others. For the martied .men Hewitt and Perry stood well to tiie front with 28 and 24 But as 1 said bafore they had n t very superior "bowling to 'contend against. Auuexed are the«corei.
