TUAPEKA MOUTH SCHOOL EXAMINAT lO N.

The second examination of the Tuapeka Month School, took place on Friday 22iul December, out owing to the unfavourable state of the weather during the afternoon, there was not as large an attendance as on the previous occasion, some ladies who were t expected to be present, being in onsequence unable to attend. The examination was .conducted chiefly by the teacher Mr. A. B. Alatthews, assisted by t*e Secretary Mr. M'Beafh, and Mr. Collier, who put the children rhron^b their arithmetical exercises and examined them in writing. Considering the time the children had attended school, those present expressed their satisfaction with the pror'c : e.ncv made in the various branches in which thoy had been examined — the school having only been open one year and seven months. The teacher, before distributing the prizes, stated that from n suggestion of ihe Committee, (by whom the rewards were niven) the prizes this year would be given only to those who were first, and second -in iheir respective classes, and that no small books should be to <he unsuccessful, it being thought that such a course would stimulate those wlio may be cureless, to greater diligence during ihe next year. Prizes were awarded as follows. —

Frßsx Class. — Mary Ann North, Ist Prize tor Arithmetic and Tables; Ist Prize for Soelling and Reading ; Ist Prize Writing, Grammar, and Geography ; also Prize for repeating ten eo'nman'lmenrs.

Second Class. — Alexander Brown, Ist Prize Arithmetic nnd tables; Ist Prize Spelling and Beading-; 2nd Prize "Reading. .Tom Porter, Ist Prize Writing. Mary Ann Anderson, Ist Prize Reading ; 2nd Prize Spelling ; Prize good conduct. Ann Sarah North, 2nd Prize Writing.

Third Class. — Agnes Anderson, Ist Prize Reading and conduct. .Kobert-s--m Brown, 2nd Prize Spelling. J >hn Anderson, Ist Priz<» Arithmetic and Tables ; 2nd Prize Heading ; Ist Spelling. James Porter, l<t Prize Writing. Wi!lhm O. Daws m, Prize Improvement and Conduct-.
