THE CANADA REEFS.
(2Pro?n our Waitahuna Correspondent) Owiiiij to the late satisfactory yield from the Ocean View claim, Table Hill, quartz reefing is attracting some attention in the district. Many claims have been marked off on either side of the Ocean View, the hill presenting the appearance of a small forest, from the number of pc^s to beseeu. Several notices appear in various parts of! it, posted by claimWders, cautioning aU parties a jainafr trespassing or interfering with their pesjs, and one party, in addition to the notice, have a watchman employed. Precautions of this kind do not appear to be altogether unnecessary, as the Ocean View party, on goino; to their claim the other moniinir, found that during the niirht an application for a lease they had posted was destroyed, and. the pe^s pulled out. They "also found that one 1 hundred yards of their ground had been pegged off by Messrs. Dyer and Crossan. A. shaft was commenced in the ground, but after bein;; carried down four or five feet, operations were discontinued.' An action- has been commenced against the trespassers, damages being laid at £59. The case will come on for hearing before Warden Simpson at Lawrence on Monday, the 6th inst. The Ocean View have sunk n Oiird shaft tn fihfi rlppfcb nf fnrf.tr feet, and are now driving for the reef. Some of the party are engaged in raisins* stone from the first shaft sunk by them, which is included in the ground jumped. Julius and party are busy sinking, but have not met with the reef yet. The Alexandra company are raising sioue from two s'lafts ; in one they are carryinjf fie reef, w'rieh is aboub four feet wide, down wit'i t'i«m. In tip i other, they are working it from a forty feet level. T lis appears to be as deep as it is possible .to work it, without erecting pimpinjf mic'iin^ry, owitu t.i the great qu uitity of water met wit'i. There are s^ve'r.-il Miims between t'lis and the river, but, with one exception, [ a?n not aware of any searc!i being mule for the reef. On the opposite si le of t V river, anl at a distance of over a mile from the michine, Hum*n anl party have benn proappctin.r "for the last, three weeks, but have not as yet succeeded in Killing the reef.
