BLUE SPUR.

(From cnvr Mining* Correspondent.)

Mining matters on the Spur are progressing favourably. There has been a succession of small blasts fired in several of the claims during the last fortnight. As uone oi iihe charges exceeded a few cwt., and being mostly preparatory to more extensive operations, they are hardly worth noticing. The Perseverance Company had a wash up lately with, it is presumed, satisfactory results. Perhaps you might expect me to tell you all about the quantity of gold, time taken to produce, working expenses, &c , but 1 must tell you candidly that you must expect no such information. We are a reticent and an independent community, and don't think it, advisable to enlighten outsiders ton much. A/oreorer. having an innocent ambition to do a little inexpensive patronising when from home, we have no wish to l>e judged by the vulgar three, f.mr, or even ten pounds a week, dividend scale, but would rather shire alike the ulory and credit of being a B. S. sharehi >ld«r.

We had a visit last week from Mi«s E lith Palm^r.ston, in her drawing- mum enttir'ainnumt, which, I am sorry to say, was rather po rly patronise! ; in fact, only about. half-a-oVz^n made their, -appear moo. Mr. \luxan ler, despariiisj of an audience, with praiseworthy liberality admitted the outsiders ur ituitoinly, to encourage tie lily to proceed. It was a source of regret to a great many that he did not make his liberal intention more pnbVic, whrn no doubt he would have had a bumper house.
