ANNIVERSARY OF THE WAITAHUNA LODGE, M.U.1.0.0.F.

(From a Correspondent.)

The yearly entertainment of the Loyal Waitahuna Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., was given on the evening of Thursday last. This, since the lodge was opened, has been the festival par excellence of the year, attended not only by every one in Waitahuna, but by numbers from all the surrounding districts. This year our visitors from Tuapeka, Wetherstones. and the Blue Spur, were comparatively few ; nor were the number from Waitahuna itself bo large as on previous occasions After tea was finished, N.G. Phillip took the chair, and introduced the amnsements by a few remarks, showing the financial position of the Lodge. The sick and funeral fund, he stated, shows a balance to its credit of L 386, and the management fund of 'Llo. During the last year about L 55 was paid to the sick members of the Society, and L2O as a funeral donation, and the medical and incidental expenses amounted to over LIOO. The number on the books of the Lodge is 64, so that the funds, exclusive of other property, would give an average to oach of more than L6, a higher average than that of most Lodges in Otago, or, indeed, in any country. Songs, readings, and speeches filled up very pleasantly a couple of hours. The singers were Mesdames Cook, Hanson, Goodman, Olsen, Bayliss, and Miss M'Kenzie, and Messrs Smith, Tanton, Bosustow, Moggath, and Bayliss. The readers were Mesdames Goodman, Johnson, and Olsen. Short speeches were delivered by N.G. Rußsel, of Tuapeka ; N.G, Bartlett, Blue Spur; and G, W.

Cairns, Chief P anger of the Havrlock Court of Foresters. Mr Bayliss aoouinpanied the singers on the harmonium. Between ten and eleven o'clock the room was cleared for dancing, which was carritul on with little intermission till daylight streamed in at the doors and windows. .
