PROVINCIAL COUNCILLORS.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, — We are to elect a member to represent this place in the Provincial Council. I think lam a fit and proper person for the position ; so does my wife. The time requires men of talent and respectability. Before I decide I should like to have an answer to the following questions :—ls: — Is the pay 20s. or 255. per day ? Are travelling expenses allowed for a member, a member's wife, and his other baggages ? Is he allowed at Bellamy's as much as he can go, or a stated quantity of liquor ? (Ten drinks a day are enough for me in common, but talking i 3 dry work.) Would a free, and independent member — a member of talent and- majestic appearance — would I, in short be likely to be appointed Speaker ?

If your answers are satisfactory, I shall stand., and tny heart tella me I shall go in. And then shall arise an era of prosperity for this oppressed province. Then the nobbier of P.B. shall hold half a pint aad be sold for

threepence, and other drinks in propertion. Those shall be halcyon days, when the duty on gold, cabbage, blight, and chilblains, be abolished and all the ills that flesh and vegetables are heir to ; and men shall rejoice that they were born. — I am, &c., J. G-ab. Waitahuna, February 30, 1871.
