THE LATE CHINESE ASSAULT. CASE.
(To the Editor.)
Sib, — In your report of the late Chinese assault cases, arising out of the sports which took place on the anniversary of their New Tear, there is some confusion as to the cognomens of the various Celestials who distinguished themselves on that occasion. It is reported that Ab Chow was prosecuted by the police in the first case, and fined. The accused was Ab Foy, Ah Chow being the person who retained counsel for the prosecution. In the second case, Su Chong was the offender, and not Ah Sum, who was one of the wounded in that terrible affray.
As your report might cause annoyance to my clients, who stand high in the estimation of their countrymen, I take the liberty of correcting your report, though I recognise at the same time the great difficulty that is experienced by reporters and others in correctly catching the Chinese proper names. — I am, <fee,
H. F. M'Cot.
